Full-Time Staff Attorney Available
The IASA has a full-time staff attorney who is available to provide general legal advice. The attorney specializes in providing counsel as it relates to employment contracts and how those agreements impact benefits from the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) and federal regulations of the Internal Revenue Service.
The attorney does not provide private legal counsel, but is available to assist IASA members in their professional capacities.
New Superintendent
Orientation
New superintendents receive a great deal of assistance through their IASA membership.
A series of mailings are sent to new superintendents during their first few months on the job, assisting them with their assigned tasks. Workshops are throughout the year, covering Board/Superintendent relations, collective bargaining/contract management, and budgetary issues.
Career
Counseling
The IASA provides career counseling for superintendents considering mid-career moves or those who wish to transition toward retirement. The IASA can provide information on a variety of career options through its network of contacts throughout the United States.
Technical and Legal Assistance
The IASA monitors rules and regulations and can assist superintendents in ensuring that their school districts remain in compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, and can provide interpretation and supporting information to the administrator and the school district.
Resume/Credentials Review
IASA staff will examine members' resumes and review credentials to assist superintendents in job searches.
Suggestions will also be provided on how to get "a foot in the door," interviewing skills and closing the deal with a signed contract.
